PLEASE HELP MY FRIEND MONICA AFFORD THE CARE SHE DESERVES <3
Monica is seriously one of the fiercest souls I have ever known. Please throw down some ca$h if you can + spread the word!
“After overcoming a fierce legal battle with the medical industry, Monica has fought to receive treatment for her progressive neurological disorder related to lupus (resulting in nerve damage) and vascular neuropathy. This is a rapid degenerative disorder that has brought on seizures, chronic pain and has put her in a wheelchair within a two-year span. She has remained strong, adapting to paralysis and is creating new mobility for herself as she works consistently, asserting her right to treatment. Finding the medical providers in Oregon and Washington to be uncooperative and discriminatory, Monica has relocated herself to New York where she is now in the care of providers who have been far more receptive to her immediate needs. Monica is still facing obstacles, today. She is in need of temporary housing while she meets her deadlines and must pay cash, upfront for many of her appointments which include neurological exams, blood work and most recently, a consultation with a rheumatologist (a specialist in arthritis).
Monica’s treatments are being scheduled weeks apart and her stay in New York could last as long as a month. Those of us who love and care for her do not want to put a time limit on her treatment plan. Together, we can contribute to a modest fund to provide the overhead for Monica’s initial cost of living, while she adjusts to meet the necessary requirements to receive her SSDI benefits and creates a sustainable framework for her treatment in New York. By contributing as little as $5 (the price of a single cup of coffee), Monica can obtain short-term housing, food, and meet costs for transportation to and from her appointments. Our goal, as a community, is to support Monica while she works towards halting the progression of this disorder and keep her under the care of specialists who can commit to helping her towards remission and even potentially halting or reversing her disorder, completely. Every day, Monica does the hard work of physical therapy and pain management, coping bravely and remaining optimistic. Let’s all pull together and help her fight through this!

My husband and I have this inside joke. After we’ve just interacted with someone wonderful—had an uplifting conversation with a sister, received a thoughtful gift from a friend—we wait until they’re gone, turn to each other, and say something along the lines of, “what a…
